A massive pop star has been confirmed to perform for the Queen and Meghan Markle at their first public appearance together. Liam Payne will perform at the event which is being held to celebrate the "lifetime commitment to the Commonwealth" of the Queen.

The BBC reports that the event to be held at Westminster Abbey, will take place on the 12th March. The Commonwealth Service will be attended by the Royal family, as well as Prime Minister Theresa May, and 800 school children.

Former performers at this special event have included 'Love Me Like You Do' singer Ellie Goulding.

Liam previously met the Queen in 2017 at the Young Leaders Awards, posting a photo on Instagram saying it was, 'An absolute honour to meet the Queen today on such a fantastic occasion.'

He continued, 'Privileged to share the room with such inspirational @queensyoungleaders, hear their stories and how they are helping to rebuild and preserve a sometimes broken world🙏🏼'.

The 24-year-old singer has seen huge solo success since One Direction started their hiatus back in January 2016. His first solo release 'Strip That Down' reached number 3 in the UK and was quickly followed by 'Get Low' with Zedd, 'Bedroom Floor' and most recently his collaboration with Rita Ora 'For You'.

Liam was nominated for two BRIT Awards, British Single 'Strip That Down' (featuring Quavo) and British Artist Video of the Year, however sadly he went away emptied handed.

Liam and Rita gave a spectacular performance of 'For You' at The BRIT Awards 2018 last month, and we caught up with Liam and Rita beforehand to test their BRITs knowledge.

See how they got on below:

Despite 'For You' still doing very well in the charts Liam has already announced he is working on another song. Liam posted a fun video of himself trying to speak Spanish during a trip to Miami where he confirmed his latest single will be with Colombian artist J Balvin.

Speaking into the camera for his Instagram Story, Liam attempted to confirm the news in the Spanish language, revealing the single will be called 'Familiar'.
