Hugh Jackman will open the BRIT Awards with music from The Greatest Showman

Exciting news! The BRIT Awards 2019 with Mastercard will open with a performance from multi award-winning actor and performer Hugh Jackman is set to open the show with a performance from the incredible film, The Greatest Showman. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, was the UK’s best selling album of last year!

The star of Wolverine, Les Misérables and so many other hit films, Hugh Jackman has carved a successful career both on stage in front of live crowds as he is on film. The Greatest Showman took the world by storm at the end of 2017, hitting the top of the box office in the UK in early 2018 and going on to become the third most purchased home entertainment release after Avengers Infinity War and Star Wars The Last Jedi.

BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK and Ireland Jason lley said of Hugh Jackman's performance, "We are delighted to welcome the Golden Globe and Tony Award winning superstar Hugh Jackman to the BRITs stage this month with a performance that is set to be nothing short of spectacular. The Greatest Showman soundtrack dominated the charts in 2018 breaking records all over the world as well as here in the UK.

The Greatest Showman is the latest performance to be revealed for The BRITs, following the announcements of P!nk, Calvin Harris with Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Rag’n’Bone Man, Jess Glynne with H.E.R., The 1975, George Ezra, Little Mix with Ms Banks and Jorja Smith for the UK’s biggest night in music.

Ellie Goulding was crowned the winner of the award in 2010. Ellie went on to release four massive albums, with her latest arriving in 2020. In 2015, Ellie recorded the track 'Love Me Like You Do' for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

Jessie J won the award in 2011 and has smashed the charts ever since. After releasing her debut album 'Who You Are' in 2011, Jessie went on to achieve global success with hits like 'Domino', 'Price Tag' and 'Bang Bang' featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.

After teaming up with Calvin Harris in 2018, Sam then worked with former Fifth Harmony singer Normani on the track 'Dancing With A Stranger' and has since released massive track 'Diamonds'.

P!nk will be closing the show with special performance as well as being the latest recipient of a BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

The BRIT Awards 2019 with Mastercard take place Wednesday 20th February at The O2 Arena, London and we'll be there on the night bringing you all the action from backstage and the red carpet!
