And so to this year’s ‘Sarah Harding’s GMTV Appearance Back In 2008’ Memorial Award for Crimes Against Singing, which this year — according to fans who attended her gig this weekend in Tokyo, anyway — goes to Mariah Carey.

Yes: the recently heartbroken Elusive Chanteuse kicked off her world tour in Tokyo this weekend, where she weakly karaoked her way through a number of hits — and fans kicked RIGHT OFF on www twitter dot com in the aftermath.

“Y'all. Mariah Carey really can't sing anymore. That was hard to listen to,” tweeted one.

“It's a wrap for Mariah Carey's singing career,” said another. “You're a legend. Time to retire.”

To be fair to Mariah, there were a few technical screw-ups — HOW IS ONE TO PERFORM WHEN A GIGANTIC SWAROVSKI BUTTERFLY REFUSES TO STAY ATTACHED TO YOUR MIC STAND? — and she is just coming off the back of a split with husband of six years Nick Cannon. But still, whatever dark magic Ariana Grande is doing behind the scenes — salt pentagrams, burning sage, sacrificing the right-hand side of her face to the Prince of Darkness in exchange for her career — seems to be working.
