One Direction have scored a number one with their track Drag Me Down making it their fourth in total!

The boys surprised everyone by 'doing a Beyonce' and releasing the track with no notice last Friday. This marks their first single since Zayn Malik quit the band back in March, and even knocked their fellow X Factor alumni Little Mix off the top spot. The girls had spent a whole 3 weeks with their track Black Magic.

This is their biggest global single launch EVER, as it racked up 500K copies in its first week. The track has hit number 1 in a whopping 90 countries, including France, which makes it their first in the country. Come on Frenchies, what took you so long?

Here are some more impressive stats:

  • The track received 4.75m Spotify streams on the first day

  • Topped the Spotify Global Chart on day of release - the first track ever to do this

  • Drag Me Down scored the top spot on Spotify in 17 individual countries including the USA.

  • It's had 17.7 million streams to date globally.

The band shot the video for Drag Me Down at NASA’s headquarters in Houston yesterday, directed by long term collaborators Fulwell 73.
