You don’t have to be a Swiftie to know that Taylor is very much back on the scene.
Last week she teased her new album, Reputation, and on Friday dropped her new single, Look What You Made Me Do, sending fans into a frenzy.
THEN, at the VMA’s this weekend, she premiered the video. It’s absolutely jam packed with hints and references, and everyone is going mad trying to decode them.
In the video, Taylor throws shade at...well, pretty much everyone. The “I heart TS” t-shirt is thought to be alluding to Tom Hiddleston, while the leopard print coat (roar) is seen to be a dig at Katy Perry.
Taylor even takes aim at her own old image and the public’s perception of her.
BUT perhaps the most shocking: fans are now theorizing that Taylor is mocking Kim Kardashian’s robbery, which happened in Paris last year.
In the scene people are referring to, Tay is seen lying in a bathtub which is filled with diamond jewellery. She makes gun hand gestures, causing speculation that she is making a direct reference to Kim K, who was tied up at gunpoint in a bathroom and had millions of pounds worth of jewellery stolen.
People are also pointing out that there’s a close up shot of lots of rings on Tay’s finger – and the most famous item taken from Kim was her 20-carat diamond engagement ring.
However others are convinced Taylor isn’t knocking Kim here, but making another reference to her own image.
When introducing the video for hit Blank Space, Taylor discussed the image of her as someone who lies around in a bathtub full of pearls.
She said: "She jet-sets around the world collecting men. And she can get any of them, but she's so clingy that they leave, and she cries and then she gets another one in her web. And she traps them, and locks them in her mansion, and then she's crying in her marble bathtub surrounded by pearls."
The jury’s out on this one…
