That age-old question: Pry-mark or Pree-mark, has FINALLY been answered. Some claim Southerners call it Pry-mark while Northerners say Pree-mark, but the clothing shop has revealed the true, official pronunciation.
Are you ready for it?
The winner is…
PRY-MARK. Pr-eye-mark. Primark announced this on the help section of their website: in response to the question “how do you pronounce Primark?” the retailer writes: “That’s a very good question. We like to use Pr-Eye-Mark.”
Many have taken to Twitter to express their shock over this announcement.
Others, however, are delighted they have been proven right.
But for Irelanders, it’s a whole different ball game – there Primark is called Penneys. The company actually originates there, and in 1969 the first store was opened under the name Penneys.
But in 1974, as Primark grew and expanded into the UK, the brand had to change its name to avoid getting in legal trouble with US retailer J C Penney.
A national debate has been settled!
