When you think of Mr Darcy, you think of Colin Firth.
Not just an ordinary Colin Firth. A 6"2 Colin Firth, with a chiselled jawline, flowing brown locks and semi-naked thanks to that lake scene.
But, sadly, it turns out we've been wrong all of these years.
New research suggests that he would have had powdered white hair, a long nose, a pointy chin and a pale complexion.
Hm…sexy.
In fact, this new portrait will give you a better idea.
It turns out a muscular chest, broad shoulders and square jaw would point to someone who was a labourer.
While slim sloping shoulders and a pale complexion were a sign of wealth and privilege, and were common features for gentlemen of the era.
Professor Vickery, who is behind the research, said: "Mr Darcy is an iconic literary character, renowned for his good looks, charm and mystery.
"As Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice in the 1790s, our Mr Darcy portrayal reflects the male physique and common features at the time.
"Men sported powdered hair, had narrow jaws and muscular, defined legs were considered very attractive. A stark contrast to the chiselled, dark, brooding Colin Firth portrayal we associate the character with today."
Now, let's forget our Mr Darcy dreams haven't been shattered and enjoy that lake scene.
