Good news for Cumberbitches – our lovely, lovely Benedict has been cast as the new Doctor Strange in, er, Doctor Strange.

Marvel have announced that the film is due to hit cinemas in 2016, and follows the story of a neuroscientist called Doctor Stephen Strange who’s involved in a car crash – only to end up with special powers as a result (that’s usually the pattern, and we aren’t complaining).

Doctor Strange’s new powers? Magic and sorcery. Now this DOES sound good. Way better than web slinging and all that. (Not that we don’t love you, Spider-Man).

Producer Kevin Feige said: “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

In the film, Benny will become Sorcerer Supreme and protect the world from all sorts of baddies. (Why can’t Benedict become Sorcerer Supreme in real life and protect our planet? That would be ace.)

Benedict beat the likes of Ewan McGregor and Joaquin Phoenix to the role (imagine being on the casting couch. Hubba hubba). And we say that Benedict was so the right good choice. Well done big film bods – you did good.

Now all we need is Cumbers to get Twitter, like this lot...
