There’s been a dedicated day for pretty much every food type over the past couple of years: National Whipped Cream Day, National Zucchini Bread Day...National Shrimp Scampi Day. None will hold a torch in our hearts like Pancake Day though. Taking place right before Valentine’s Day - proving you don’t need love in your life, just carbs - we got in touch with DesignMyNight for the best stacks across the capital. From pizza pancakes (yes, these actually exist) to ones that taste exactly like espresso martini cocktails; swap that heaped spoon of sugar and those lemon wedges for some extraordinary mouthfuls on the 13th.

The Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club are a force to be reckoned with and this year they've teamed up with Pizza Pilgrims to offer a smashing stack of pizza pancakes to the masses. Held together with mozzarella and topped with Nduja sausage, fresh basil and chilli oil, their savoury offering has been labelled as one of a kind. They've also knuckled down with some other foodie elites to bring pancakes that are 100% vegan and ones died every colour of the rainbow.

Polo Bar

Yes it's February, and yes it's freezing. But Polo Bar have completely disregarded the plummeting temperatures outside to create a top dollar selection of pancakes with Jude's ice cream. This 24-hour haunt will serve said fluffy cakes all day and all night, giving you plenty of time to try their limited edition masterpieces before they leave the menu. Go healthy with the tropical that's built with fresh fruit and Jude's Mango & Passionfruit Frozen Yoghurt or opt for the red velvet and cherry ripple that's presented with a sweet slice of red velvet cake.

Christopher's

If you're willing to try something a little bit different on the 13th, make plans to visit Christopher's. This popular American restaurant is plating up three different pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, with one coming in more luxurious than the rest with grilled lobster, sea kale and chorizo as toppings. If you're craving something a little more sugar-heavy, order the French toast pancakes. They come served with crumbled honeycomb pieces, lashings of maple syrup and a feather-light dusting of cinnamon.

Joe’s Southern Table & Bar

Joe's Southern Table & Bar is home to some of the best fried chicken in London so it comes as no surprise that they've decided to incorporate it into their Pancake Day celebrations. Ditching waffles for fluffy American-style pancakes, you'll get a side of Joe's signature deep-fried chicken and a generous helping of Jim Beam bourbon maple syrup to help seal the deal on this savoury dish.

The Diner

Yeah, you could stay in on the 13th and layer your homemade pancakes with jar after jar of Nutella...or you could go to The Diner. This comfort food haven has a pancake selection so good you'll be screaming 'holy crêpe' in no time. Pick from Oreo pancakes with Marshmallow fluff, maple syrup and crushed cookies; peanut butter and jelly stacks, or go all out with their Reese's Pieces option that come loaded with chocolate sauce and scoops of ice cream.

Dirty Bones

You won't be able to stuff your face with Dirty Bones' double dutch pancakes on the 13th (they're only available on their weekend brunch menu - wah), but this gives you the perfect excuse to continue your Pancake Day celebrations into the weekend. Served with fresh blueberries, dollops of fresh cream and golden maple syrup, don't be too shocked when you find yourself absentmindedly licking your plate clean when you've gobbled up your last bite.

Queen of Hoxton

If you need us on the 13th, we'll be at the Queen of Hoxton. This quirky rooftop is serving espresso martini pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, and they look insane. Sandwiched together with Kahlua cream and drizzled with a smooth chocolate, espresso and vodka sauce - they're the definition of boozy brilliance. If you wanna steer clear of booze on Tuesday, not to worry - they'll have a DIY station with tonnes of different toppings.

Riding House Cafe

The Riding House Cafe aren't doing a special stack for Pancake Day because they've obviously already perfected their pancake offering. Their buttermilk mountains come decorated with fresh berries, maple syrup and a giant blob of clotted cream. A massive crowd-pleaser, make sure you book in advance if you want to pay them a visit on the 13th.

Aqua Shard

Next level pancakes? You need to visit Aqua Shard. This place has panoramic views where you can easily eye spy Tower Bridge and St. Paul's, but visit them on the 31st and turn your attention to their pancake offering. They've got a pancake wrap packed with Gianduja milk chocolate, orange ganache, caramelised bananas and vanilla ice cream, alongside a special Panberry cocktail made with Mount Gay rum, banana liqueur, maple syrup and rubis, fortified red wine - which comes served with a blueberry dust rim, a chocolate meringue and a stack of mini pancakes.

Where The Pancakes Are

Where The Pancakes Are have teamed up with Rubies in the Rubble to bring two 'thoughtful' pancakes to their dining table this year. Choose from buttermilk pancakes served with thick cut bacon, fresh blueberries and BBQ Blueberry Sauce, or opt for pancakes topped with crispy smoked streaky bacon, sliced banana and Rubies in the Rubble Spicy Banana Ketchup to make way for a (borderline) guilt-free Pancake Day.
