Whether you’ve heard about them or not, London is jam-packed with pop-up cinemas this winter and there’s no way in hell you’re missing out. We got in touch with DesignMyNight for the top five in the capital; from screenings at the very top of The Shard to secret wardrobes that lead to snow-filled spaces.
Best festive pop-up cinemas to check out this Christmas
Film and Fizz
Picture the scene: you with a chilled glass of Lallier Champagne in hand and a great movie rolling onto the big screen. Well, you'll get this and a three-course meal at Indigo if you nab a ticket to Film and Fizz. Housed in One Aldwych, you'll be treated to expertly made dishes before you're shown to a private cinema room where you can sink into a cosy chair. Pick from It's a Wonderful Life or Murder on the Orient Express and get ready for the ultimate cinema experience.
Pop-Up Screens
If you've ever watched The Chronicles of Narnia, you'll appreciate this event. Pop-Up Screens is a hidden gem of a pop-up, and the only way to get to it is by travelling through a wardrobe. If you manage to locate the secret entrance, you'll be treated to a world ruled by snow and pine trees. Screening everything from Elf to Bad Santa, the only thing missing is a bar stocked with mulled wine. Oh wait - they've got that too.
Backyard Cinema
Is it ironic to say the Backyard Cinema is like something out of a movie? This pop-up cinema has pulled out all the stops this year with their Snow Kingdom and Winter Night Garden installations. You'll either be weaving through secret tunnels of trees to a fairy-lit woodland or journeying across a frozen lake to an enchanted castle, but whatever adventure you embark on, you're guaranteed to have a blast. Being adventurous is thirsty work, so they have a bar stocked with mulled wine to reward you when you reach your final destination.
The Berkeley
Growing tired of watching your favourite Christmas movie in your pjs with a mound of Celebrations? The Berkeley have brought back their rooftop cinema for winter 2018 and as far as we're concerned, Christmas has come early. It's kitted out with fleecy rugs, hot water bottles and fur wraps and they hand out mugs of mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies to keep you merry throughout the movie.
The Travelling Film Show
Rumoured to be one of the best things to do in London, The Travelling Film Show is the highest pop-up cinema in the UK, and they're screening some epic black and white films at The Shard for the festive season. Located 69 floors above London, all that ear popping in the lift will be worth it when you catch a glimpse of the view. Before you settle down into your seats, you'll be welcomed with a complimentary Grey Goose cocktail and a generous bag of sweet and salty popcorn.
