Do you want to know what will make you feel older? Older than, to pick an example completely at random, getting the bus to work today and it being held up right about UCL because of some Freshers’ Week convention, and you see young greyhound-thin students doing things like unironically wearing a bowler hat and actually talking to the person behind a promotional paintball desk and having nervous little conversations about their A-Levels and you realising with a judder that it has been nine years — nine human years — since that student in a bowler hat was you, that you are an entire generation away from those students who will, from 4pm this very afternoon, be getting wrecked for the first time on jelly shots, and that you, tired and old and tired, you are creaking one bad knee in front of the other ever closer to the abyss? Do you want to know what will make you feel even older than that? Well guess what: Friends is 20 years old. Today. 20. Years old. Today.

So uh yeah anyway to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show, some clever types have got celebrities such as Rizzle Kicks, Charlotte Crosby, Amelia Lily and actual Jedward to sing Phoebe’s infamous stand-up-in-a-café-and-sing-it song, Smelly Cat.

Oh, also:

  • Celebrate Friends’ 20th anniversary with the Nation’s Favourite episodes today until 9pm on Comedy Central and the FRIENDS 20TH Anniversary Box Sets (The Beginning, The Middle and The End) are out today.*

Now, we’re off to have a lie down in the middle of that plaza outside UCL and just have a think about when and exactly where our youth came to a full and final stop.
