Vera was dead, to begin with.

Emmerdale: Liz Dawn

Hold onto your hats everybody, Vera Duckworth is back in Soap Land for a Christmas special.

Sort of.

Vera Duckworth, much loved Coronation Street stalwart, went to the great soap graveyard in the sky in 2010 after dying peacefully in her sleep – possibly the only soap character ever not to be bumped off by a falling tram/ whacked on the head with a bust of Queen Victoria / trampled by an angry cow.

And now she’s back! Her face is, anyway. Attached to actress Liz Dawn and popping up in Emmerdale. That’s right.

Liz, who is looking flaming amazing at 76, is playing Mrs Winterbottom in the Christmas Day episode of the farmer-centric soap.

It's the ghost of Christmas Past! Sort of.

Mrs Winterbottom will be making the life of Eric Pollard a festive misery as she strops around the B&B as a super-demanding guest.

Liz said: “There’s only one show I’d come out of retirement for and it’s Emmerdale, particularly as I’ve celebrated my 76th birthday this week (8 November) so I wanted to mark the occasion.

“I love my character. What a feisty lady she is! Giving them all a run for their money in the B&B on Christmas Day.

“She’s so rude to them which isn’t like me at all.”

We love it when actors leap from one soap to another; it’s our favourite thing. Other than Zayn Malik’s nipples, obvs.
