Coronation Street is set to broadcast live from the cobbles tonight – but the soap’s Jack P Shepherd says the cast is praying for zero f**k-ups during filming.
When heat caught up with Jack earlier this summer, he immediately filled us in on all the casts’ worries… including them having their very own “How’s Adam?” moment, like EastEnders’ Jo Joyner did back in February.
“Everyone’s shitting themselves! They are at our place anyway. None of us know what we’re doing in it,” he told us at the time.
“We’ve done two now and two have gone very well and we’ve not had any cock-ups. Touch wood. So when this third one got announced I was thinking, ‘Surely we’re going to go wrong on this one?’”
But what’s REALLY the worst thing that could happen?
“Obviously the biggest fear is cocking up and everything going wrong and it being obviously you that has cocked up. I suppose forgetting a line…”
Or, er, calling an actor by their real name?
“Yeah, that happened didn’t it? Yeah, that’s a big problem.
The best live-scene fails in EastEnders history
“Although in actual fact that helped them because they had a week of lives and she went wrong on the Monday or Tuesday and it was live for the rest of the week so all it did was got people talking, ‘Did you see that? Did you see that?’ So their audience just increased throughout the week. Her going wrong actually helped the show.”
Jack, who’s played David Platt on the show since April 2000, was also worried about appearing opposite Les Dennis in the live episode – because he’s ALWAYS corpsing.
“The thing is as soon as soon as Les is in a scene you automatically laugh at him. Just because it’s Les Dennis – it goes without saying. Also he’ll just laugh in our faces when they camera is on us and not on him. He’s ridiculous. He’s absolutely awful, awful.”
