Congratulations to Dame Helen Mirren, who was crowned Best Leading Actress at last night’s 69th annual Tony Awards.

The 69-year-old actress – who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film* The Queen* – received the accolade for reprising her role as Lizzie in* The Audience,* marking her first ever Tony Award win.

Taking to the stage at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the theatre awards, she said: "Your Majesty, you did it again."

Dame Helen beat off stiff competition from The Great Gatsby actress Carey Mulligan, who was nominated for playing an inner-city schoolteacher in* Skylight*, and* Mad Men's* Elisabeth Moss who starred in the feminist play The Heidi Chronicles.
