Dermot O’Leary has become an unofficial superhero after confirming he’ll step in for Terry Wogan on tonight’s BBC Children In Need 2015 gala.
The former X Factor presenter will have some big shoes to fill after Sir Terry announced he’d have sit this year’s show out due to health concerns.
It’s thought he needs a procedure done on his back that would put him out of action while he recovers.
The charity event has been running for 36 years, with Sir Terry at the helm for every live show since 1980.
Dermot said it was a “huge honour” to be asked to present the prestigious show, especially as Terry is one of his “broadcasting heroes” and a “source of support” to him for years.
“I’d like to add my best wishes to Sir Terry for a speedy recovery, and I hope I do him justice and do my small part to make the night a success and make as much money as we can for disadvantaged children across the country,” he added.
A statement from the BBC said: “We are pleased to announce that fellow Irishman and Radio 2 presenter Dermot O’Leary will be stepping into Sir Terry Wogan’s shoes for tonight's Children In Need.
“The presenting baton will be picked up by Shane Richie on BBC2 at 10pm, then return to BBC1 with Nick Grimshaw and Rochelle Humes from 10.30pm. We are incredibly grateful to Dermot for stepping in at such short notice but know he’ll do us and Sir Terry proud.”
Catch Children In Need tonight from 7.30pm on BBC1.
