Speaking backstage with* heat*, the Sing star told us his mum had emailed him saying she thought it would be Sam Smith!

“My mum just emailed me,” Ed told us.

“My mum’s email just said ‘holy shit! I thought they were going to roll out Sam Smith’ – that’s nice to know. And then she said, ‘didn’t Pharrell say nice things about you?’”

Bless her.

Speaking about his win, Ed – who was sipping on a gin and tonic backstage – said he was chuffed as he “secretly wanted to win”.

He added: “I’m absolutely chuffed. I spent the whole day worrying, like, what do I do? Pretend to not want to win, I don’t really know. With these things, you tend to play it down because if you don’t win, it looks like you don’t mind.”

And Ed also revealed that he’s now won so many awards, he’s actually built a special cabinet for all of his prizes.

“I created an awards cabinet in my house because they were everywhere,” Ed said.

“There were some in the toilet, not in the toilet, but in the toilet room, some in the kitchen, some on the table so I created a cabinet and it’s going to go in there. It’s only two Brits, two Q Awards and an Ivor Novello award – they’re all my faves.”

We bloody love you, Ed.
