Monica and Chandler

Imagine a world where Monica and Chandler didn’t get together in Friends. Just think of the sadness, despair and general bleakness. And then thank the Lord that Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman changed her mind at a pivotal moment.

Marta has revealed that their fling in London the night of Ross’ wedding to Emily was never meant to be more than a one-night stand.

Once they got back to New York, the idea was that they’d go back to being just good friends. You know… like the name of the show.

Marta even went on to reveal that the writers had planned to cut the saucy scenes, as they were worried that audiences wouldn’t respond well to Monica and Chandler having a one-night stand. But once the episode aired, the reaction was positive.

She said: “Suddenly the audience told us they had been waiting for [them to get together] and we had to rethink how we were going to keep going and change the relationship.”
