Game of Thrones: Did they go too far with controversial rape scene?

Game Of Thrones divided fans after a controversial rape scene was aired.

The episode showed Sansa Stark being violently raped on her wedding night by her new husband Ramsay Bolton. He also forces another character, Theon Greyjoy, to watch.

Did Game of Thrones go too far?

Some fans of the show were disgusted with the content, others were angered that HBO used the scene for “shock value” as the plot differs from the original George RR Martin’s novels.

While some people are calling for fans to boycott the show, George spoke out amid the criticism of HBO.

“The show is the show, the books are the books – two different tellings of the same story,” he wrote on his blog.

“Small changes lead to larger chances lead to huge changes. HBO is more than forty hours into the impossible and demanding task of adapting my lengthy (extremely) and complex (exceedingly) novels, with their layers of plots and subplots, their twists and contradictions and unreliable narrators, viewpoint shifts and ambiguities and a cast of characters in the hundreds.”

HBO has not commented on the viewers’ opinions.
