Instagram have revealed some VERY important news on their official Twitter account, as they announce that they will be running a 'test' where they will hide the total number of likes and video views users' posts receive.
Taking to the social site, the account wrote, 'We’re currently running a test that hides the total number of likes and video views for some people in the following countries:✅ Australia ✅ Brazil ✅ Canada ✅ Ireland ✅ Italy ✅ Japan ✅ New Zealand' [sic].
The announcement was met with mixed reactions, as some users commented praising the new move. One wrote, 'Honestly, this is actually pretty good. Puts more focus on the content and not how many likes a picture has.' [sic] whilst another wrote, 'Yes I like this!' [sic].
A large group of users, however, are less than impressed with the idea, with one commenting, 'Literally no one asked for this! Get rid of it and put our posts back into chronological order' [sic], another writing, 'i don’t like this at all 👎' [sic] and another simply adding, 'Stop it' [sic].
Instagram followed their original Tweet with two more comments, reading, 'We want your friends to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get. You can still see your own likes by tapping on the list of people who've liked it, but your friends will not be able to see how many likes your post has received.' [sic]
They continued, 'We’re looking forward to learning more about how this change might benefit everyone’s experience on Instagram.' [sic].
The CEO of Instgram, Adam Mosseri, has said, "We want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they're getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about."
