JK Rowling has today announced she’s written a brand new part of the Harry Potter story – and we’ll be able to see it with our eyes NEXT YEAR!
It’s not a new novel – and the author is insisting it’s not a sequel exactly – but Harry Potter And The Cursed Child will open as a play in London in 2016.
Taking to Twitter, she revealed her big news:
“Today is a very special day for two reasons. Firstly, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in the UK 18 years ago! I'm also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the #CursedChild will be opening in London next year.”
She said it will tell a “new story” and is a collaboration with her, director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne.
“I don't want to say too much more, because I don't want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans,” she went on.
“However, I can say that it is not a prequel!”
When asked why Cursed Child has been turned into a play rather than a book, Rowling replied:
“I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”
She added: “I've had countless offers to extend Harry's story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team!
“It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry's story.”
GAH! SQUEE! SWOON!
Aaaand that’s pretty much all we know. Oh, except for the fact it won’t be a musical either.
It's been a good week for Potter fans - yesterday, JK Rowling also revealed the REAL reason why Harry's Uncle Vernon hated him so much.
It's all falling into place!
