One Direction released History tonight: a song Liam Payne has dedicated to the band’s millions of fans. Speaking a week before the release of their fifth album Made In The A.M, Liam said the track was all about the fans.
Describing the track as a modern version of You’ve Got A Friend In Me, he said: “More than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing — One Direction — over the past five years. Out of [‘History’] comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction.”

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Liam explained how his bandmate Niall Horan and their long time songwriter and collaborator Julian Bunetta had invited fans into the studio to help record vocals for History.
“That was actually my idea,” Liam explained. “It’s really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they’ve done; I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album.”
We bet the fans are as proud as punch.
