It’s about MOPEDS

We’ve often thought mopeds are underappreciated. Motorcycles get so much love ‘n’ lust, a sturdy two-wheeler ‘ped can be overlooked. Not anymore…

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Downtown, aka the anthem for mopeds, makes our ears and eyes HAPPY. And that is important on a Monday, right?

The tune wounds a bit like Mark Ronson’s hit Uptown Funk minus the cheesy horns and way cooler, with Macklemore rapping about mopeds instead. Yes, that’s right. This is a song dedicated to the glory that is mopeds. See, funny!

With lyrics like, “You don’t need an Uber, you don’t need a cab, f*** a bus pass, you got a MOPED man!” this song makes us simultaneously LOL and groove. Because the melodies, courtesy of Eric Nally, are seriously good. Sort of like 70s hip-hop-slash-rock with a weird Little Shop Of Horrors undertone.

Chatting to MTV the hit rapper said, “Ryan [Lewis] made a beat on the road called ’moping around,’ I got the beat, I thought it said moped. Coincidentally we had both purchased mopeds for being on the road so we could go around, leave the venues that we were performing at, and I wrote a song about mopeds, which now a year and a half later is out in the world.”

Oh, and the video is suitably nutty. Macklemore zipping around on a moose-pimped ride with his pals who are all dressed like they have stepped straight outta 1974.

We’ve played this 876 times today already….
