Great news Corrie, X Factor and Spice Girls fans – Mel B has bagged a role on Coronation Street!

The X Factor judge will be playing a character “totally different” from herself in a one-off episode for ITV’s charity appeal Text Santa, which Mel’s X Factor pal Cheryl Fernandez-Versini also took part in last year. Chezza played herself in a special festive episode alongside Michelle Keegan.

But back to Mel – did you know that’s she actually already been in the soap? That’s right – Mel played shop worker Amy Nelson in 1993, a year before hitting the big time with the Spice Girls.

An insider told The Sun: “It is a cameo but she will be playing a character who isn’t connected to her personally.

“It will be Mel — but not as we have seen her before. It is fair to say there will be a lot of walking along the cobbles.”

A pal added: “Mel has always loved Corrie. It was one of her first tastes of showbiz and jumped at the chance of appearing in it again.”

Mel is filming her Christmas-themed part this week and it will be shown in the Text Santa fundraiser on 19 December.
