I won't lie, I bloody love a Bill's. Whether it's a laidback lunch or boozy brunch I'm after, the place never disappoints. So, when I was invited to check out the Covent Garden restaurant's snazzy new makeover, I jumped at the chance.
Oh, and I took along the harshest critic who'd have Grace Dent quaking in her boots - my boyfriend's mum Ange.
The Covent Garden branch is one of the restaurant's new concept sites with refurbishments and a brand-spankin-new menu. Let's see what all the fuss is about, shall we?
The food
To say we were spoilt for choice would be the understatement of the century. Bill's menu was already brilliant, but Covent Garden just got a whole load of new additions and they're all delicious.
We went for the fried halloumi sticks, calamari with garlic and lemon and aioli and giant green gordal olives to share; then came the main event. I just had to get the minute steak (medium rare, if you're asking) with rosemary salted chips and roasted garlic butter. I'd go as far as to say it's up there with fancy steak place Gaucho, tbh.
And the best bit? The PRICE. If you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or simply fancy treating yourself, there's something here for every budget and you'll feel boujee as anything without having to take out a small loan for the privilege.
The drinks
It's sort of an unwritten rule not to mix your drinks, but with so many cocktails on offer it'd have been rude not to. I kicked things off with the Pinkster Raspberry Gin and tonic, which was quite possibly the best gin I've ever tasted. And I've had a fair few gins in my time.
We'd also highly recommend Bill's Signature Negroni and the Campfire Espresso Martini. TOO GOOD.
The decor
Right - can I somehow get Bill’s founder Bill Collison to redecorate my entire flat, please? The eclectic British vibes gives the restaurant a homely feel; providing the perfect environment for a leisurely lunch. Each of the trinkets on display makes for the most Instagram-friendly aesthetic guaranteed to get the likes rolling in. Again, the restaurant's fancy new makeover makes you feel like you're dining in the most expensive of establishments. Luckily that quickly fades when you get the ridiculously-reasonable bill, though.
