These days you’ll mostly know Richard Blackwood for his stellar turns as the donkey in Shrek: The Musical, and, um, a Burger King advert.
In his heyday back in the Nineties he presented THE BEST DATING SHOW EVER,* Singled Out*, as well as his own comedy show, The Richard Blackwood Show.
He then went on to release a decidedly dodgy single called Mama Who Da Man (see below, then you’ll understand).
There’s not been much Blackwood in our lives since, apart from that Burger King ad. And the time he was tricked on Brass Eye, but let’s not go there right now – Google is your friend if you do.
But guess what? Richard has got a part in EastEnders. Ooh indeed.
He’ll appear on the show for the first time in Easties’ live 30th anniversary special episode, where Lucy Beale’s killer is revealed – and he’s going to play a baddie. So, did Richard kill Lucy?
"To know my first ever scene will be a live one hopefully means the team believe in me and I won't let them down," Richard said.
Exec producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said:
"Richard Blackwood has always been on our EastEnders wish list - and now the perfect part has come along.”
"Richard's an authentic Londoner and a terrific actor, bringing with him warmth, humour and energy which will add so many layers to this 21st Century EastEnders villain. The status quo in the Square is about to be well and truly shaken."
