Ross Kemp is set to return to EastEnders in the coming months to say goodbye to his character’s mum, Peggy Mitchell.

Grant Mitchell hasn’t appeared on the BBC soap for nine years, but after it was revealed that Peggy – played by Barbara Windsor – is to lose her battle with cancer in spring, producers want Grant back in the Queen Vic.

Ross said: “When I was approached about returning to* EastEnders* for Barbara's final episodes, it was something I could not turn down.

“Barbara is a very close friend, so when I learned of the storyline it felt right that the Mitchell brothers are reunited with their mother for the last time.

“I am really looking forward to going back to* EastEnders* and filming what are set to be some classic EastEnders episodes.”

Peggy made a surprise return to the square on Friday to tell her other son Phil (Steve McFadden) that her cancer had returned.

She is not due to appear again until her final episodes in spring, when Ross will also return.
