Very sad Coronation Street news now – David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper, has decided to take a break from the show.

But before you go crying all the tears you’ve got left from the new Sainsbury’s Christmas advert (which probably isn’t many. WE LOVE YOU, MOG!), David is only leaving the soap for three months.

He’s signed up to appear in a production of Samuel Beckett's Endgame.

His appearance in Endgame – which has dates in Glasgow and Manchester at the beginning of 2016 – will involve a Corrie reunion with his former co-star Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow), who is also starring in the play.

A C_oronation Street_ spokesperson confirmed that the soap were happy to grant David the time off as he shared his plans well in advance.

Endgame will run at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow 4 – 20 February, before moving to Manchester's HOME Theatre for more dates from 25 February.
