It's been so long since Sherlock was on our screens that Benedict Cumberbatch has literally met a woman, married her AND fathered a child with her. THANKS, THE BBC. THANKS SO MUCH FOR TORTURING US WITH YOUR LENGTHY WAITING.

But it's OK, because the Beeb is throwing us the crumbs from its feast of popular entertainment – and here's what it's got for us.

Yes, it's a look at the brand new Sherlock special, which is rumoured to air over Christmas this year, and this time it's set in Victorian London.

Everyone knows that Victorian London was always snowy, the men wore rad hats and the women were either queens, prostitutes or sassy landladies who'd inexplicably been able to buy prime property in the middle of the capital without any visible means of independent wealth.

Step forward Mrs Hudson.

Benedict is back as Sherlock Holmes avec pipe, deerstalker and great coat, with Martin Freeman as his moustachioed sidekick Dr John Watson.

God, we're SO excited.

To make things even more exciting, Sherlock bosses are at Comic-Con in America this week where they've been discussing plot lines for SEASON 4.

The question on everybody's lips is whether Jim Moriarty is dead – we saw him shoot himself in the head at the end of Season 2, but then reappear on a looped video at the end of the last series, so what's going on?

Annoyingly, we're not going to be finding out any time soon – but here's Benedict, Mark Gatiss and Moriarty star Andrew Scott giving their excuses for missing Comic-Con:
