Forget the Oscars and the Baftas, because there’s only one gong the good folk of soap want to win: a Kay’s Soapy Bubble award.
As is tradition, on 30 December, I will be dishing out prizes to all the actors, actresses (and pets) of EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks for their services to soap.
Last year, ‘Enders came out on top with a whopping four gongs, including the It’d Never Happen Award for Alfie single-handedly stopping a plane from taking off (which had Kat inside) by simply knocking on the door – yep, * really* – as well as the Most Random Storyline award for Dot finding a snake in her bag. Remember that?
Coronation Street and Hollyoaks both triumphed in two categories each, with Liz McDonald and Evil Grace in Corrie getting Best Return and Best Newcomer respectively and Hollyoak’s Dr Browning scooping the Best Baddie gong and the dramatic bomb explosion earning ‘Oaks the Most Explosive Storyline prize. Plus Emmerdale got Best Special Effects for the incredible Woolpack siege.
