Although it's always been a very unique feature of the platform, Twitter is considering shaking it up by removing things like links and user handles from the count, according to *Re/code.

Apparently the character limit has always been a topic of debate internally at Twitter, and now the company has taken on a new Chief Executive in recent months, Jack Dorsey, and he wants to shake things up in a bid to bring more new users to the platform.* *

Although it's already possible to publish longer tweets with things like OneShot and TwitLonger, this would allow all the text to actually appear on Twitter and be searchable.
