Question: Have you EVER had a phone for a long period of time without smashing the screen?

It's a disaster waiting to happen, isn't it?

And it looks like it’s not just us who think so. Apparently, almost 90 per cent of smartphone owners have dropped their phones in the last year. And let's face it... the remaining 10 per cent probably have theirs in a reaaaally ugly case.

So we were pretty bloody thrilled to discover that soon broken phone screens could be a thing of the past.

Yup, it turns out inventors are working on a new type of unbreakable glass.

According to glass manufacturer, Corning, their new 'Gorilla Glass' can withstand a drop from 1.6m onto a rough surface.

(Essentially, that means we can take a selfie without worrying about your phone slipping out of your hand.)

And it won't just be iPhone users cheering for joy. Gorilla Glass is currently used in over 1,800 glass phone screens, for 40 major brands, meaning they'll pretty much revolutionize everyone's lives. No biggie.

The glass will be available from later this year. So, if you're reading this Steve Jobs, take note.
