13 Reasons Why is the TV show that got pretty much the whole world talking last year – and for good reason.
The Netflix show was a massive hit with viewers, and opened up a huge conversation on the subjects of suicide, mental health and sexual assault.
It was then revealed that the show will be renewed for a second season – producer Selena Gomez wrote on Instagram: “Their story isn’t over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming.”
But when is it out? Who will star in it? WHAT ON EARTH WILL IT BE ABOUT? Let’s find out.
When is 13 Reasons Why season 2 out? Does it have a release date?
Great news - the show finally has a release date! It will hit Netflix on 18 May 2018.
Is there a 13 Reasons Why season 2 trailer?
Yep! The official Twitter page posted a trailer alongside the release date announcement.
They then followed it up with the following full-length trailer:
What will happen in 13 Reasons Why season 2?
In short, nobody seems to be sure – but the storyline has been predicted to take place a couple of months after the end of the first season.
NVice-President of Original Series at Netflix Brian Wright said that season 2 "continues the characters' journeys. It continues this dialogue and these conversations and the exploration of some of these super tough topics, but in a way that's always wrapped in a very entertaining and propulsive thread and story."
And showrunner Brian Yorkey added: "In a way it felt that to leave them there would be unfair to the characters and also to the viewers who really had come to care about them. Jessica in particular, her experience continues to be a central part of season two. We wanted very much to look at her recovery. To look at what it is to go from being a victim of sexual assault to being a survivor of sexual assault.
The writer of the series, Brian Yorkey, also hinted toward what sort of storyline we can expect.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: "Hannah's story is still very much not finished,"
"She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the centre of it."
The writer of the book that the show is based on, Jay Asher, never wrote a sequel - but he has spoken animatedly about wanting a new series.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “I’m curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What’s going to happen to Mr. Porter?
“I’d thought of a sequel at some point. I’d brainstormed it, but decided I wasn’t going to write it. So I’d love to see it.”
Although we don't know exactly what's going to happen just yet, some fans have come up some pretty convincing theories. Read them here.
Who will be in 13 Reasons Why season 2?
Most of the season one cast are returning for the new series, as well as a number of other characters. Dylan Minette, who plays Clay, previously told Entertainment weekly: “I honestly did not realise how much was going to be left open at the end.”
“I think that there’s potential to know more about these characters and I think that there are good stories to be told. I also feel like if that was the ending, it’s also a beautiful way to end it.
“I think that [writer] Brian [Yorkey] and these writers could tell some pretty amazing stories about it.
“Whatever they write, I’m in.”
More specifically, will Hannah Baker be in 13 Reasons Why seaons 2??
She will indeed! The creator of the show told the Hollywood Reporter: "Hannah's story is still very much not finished,"
"She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the centre of it."
What will happen to Bryce in Season 2?
Season 1 ended with Jessica telling her dad she’d been raped, and Brian Yorkey (and literally everyone else) is keen to see Bryce get his comeuppance.
"I want to do Jessica’s story the deserved justice of following her as she goes back to school, as she tries to begin to recover from what happened to her, because it’s something that millions of young women go through. And also [I want to] see somebody punch Bryce in the face."
