Fans of the much-loved television show The Big Bang Theory have found out that season 12 will be the last. The news was revealed in a series of tweets on their official page.
Their initial announcement was then followed by a statement which read, 'We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring #TheBigBangTheory to an epic creative close. -Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions'.
Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny, also took to Instagram sharing a photo of the main cast members. She captioned the photo, 'This ride has been a dream come true and as life changing as it gets. No matter when it was going to end , my heart would have always been broken in two. Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet. To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers , CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are goin out with a bang 💫 @bigbangtheory_cbs'. [sic]
The popular TV show will end next May after a 279 episode run. According to the statement, it will make it the longest-running multi-camera series in TV history.
The show originally debuted on CBS in 2007 in America, before hitting screens here in the UK on E4. The Big Bang Theory is the longest running multi-camera TV series and has won numerous awards, including seven Emmys from a massive 46 nominations. The awards include four Outstanding Lead Actor wins for Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper.
The show centres around the lives of scientists Dr. Leonard Hofstadter, Dr. Sheldon Cooper, Dr Raj Koothrappali, Howard Wolowitz and their neighbour Penny - whose surname has remained a mystery throughout the series. It has been praised for its combination of science, intellect and humour. The show has had a number of high profile cameos over the years, including Professor Stephen Hawking.
Kaley has consistently found herself in the Top 10 highest-earning TV actresses according to Forbes. Last year she was ranked at Number 2!
