We're just a couple of weeks away from the summer series of Celebrity Big Brother, however there are a new set of rumours circulating around the possible cancellation of the popular reality TV show. Over the weekend it was reported that this upcoming series would be the final one after declining ratings, however Channel 5 have now come forward to say there have been NO developments, after the cancellation rumours first started in January 2018.

"The situation remains unchanged," a spokesperson for Celebrity Big Brother told entertainment website Digital Spy, continuing, "Big Brother is currently contracted until the end of the year, there's no update on future series beyond 2018."

This was after last summer's comments from Channel 5 boss Ben Frow who admitted he would like to see the show scrapped, saying, "I would be much happier if the channel did not have Big Brother on it."

Then, earlier this year, following the airing of the winter Celebrity Big Brother, where Shane Jenek won, many publications were reporting that this year's series could be our last, due to falling viewing figures. At the time, according to iNews, a spokesperson for Channel 5 confirmed two more series would be aired this year, but they did not comment on the show’s future after 2018.

Meanwhile, away from these rumours, earlier this month Channel 5 released details of the new Big Brother Eye and the theme of the new series saying it was 'Eye of the Storm'. The statement revealed, 'All of the celebrity names entering the house will have been caught up in their own media storm. And now, the celebrities are once again putting themselves in the public eye and this time they have a lot to prove.'

They also revealed a short teaser of the logo saying it was 'coming soon', and whilst an official start date still hasn't been confirmed, many places are reporting it will be on the 17th August 2018.

Channel 5 also have yet to confirm the line-up for the new series, however, there are many rumoured contestants including Meghan Markle's half-sister Samantha Markle. Samantha recently appeared on Good Morning Britain where she was asked if she would be entering the infamous house. “Urm… well, I would tell you, but then I would have to kill you," Samantha said, "So…. I don’t want to find myself in locks and stocks quite frankly. It wouldn’t be becoming.”
