Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell have always had a bit of a cat and mouse relationship.

On last night’s episode of The X Factor the turbulent atmosphere reached its highest peak and became too uncomfortable for viewers and even a couple of celebrities alike to watch.

Simon’s act Jay James seems to have triggered off the war of words between the pair.

After Jay sang a rendition of Adele’s Skyfall, Cheryl said: “The production saved you tonight.

“If you're going to sing a song by Adele, you need more suave and passion in your performance.

“I didn't feel that at all. Sorry.”

Simon chucked it back to Cheryl with: “Just to remind you, sweetie. “Is a singing not an acting competition.”

Furious Cheryl replied: “Fine, but don't you ever criticise any of my acts in the future. Now, talk to you act!”

After the ITV show episode, Cheryl posted the picture above “Yes… Was one of those nights you can't tell other judges acts they didn't perform a song as well as they could or should have then when somebody remotely has an opinion on Simons act he responds with "it's not an acting completion"

Don't give it if you can't take it! Right.”

Dermot O’Leary was then filmed back stage saying: “Wow, somebody woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning.

“I'm sorry you had to watch them argue like that. It's like watching my mum and argue.”

Cheryl continued to bicker with Simon and the former Girls Aloud band member claimed to feel sick and asked Louis Walsh to swap seats so that she didn't have to be next to Simon.

As soon as she moved, she said that her 'nausea' had disappeared.

Brian McFadden tweeted: “Think @CherylOfficial 's ponytail is wound too tight. Bratt.

“Whatever's going on behind the scene chezza needs to leave it there. Doing herself no favours. @TheXFactor.”
