Christmas is only a month way and the votes are in, the top 10 Christmas films have been revealed.

Voted for by Ranker visitors, the top ten family friendly Christmas films include two of the Home Alone films, Miracle on 34th Street and The Muppet Christmas Carol. Sadly for some, films such as Love Actually, The Polar Express and E.T. failed to make the cut this year. ** Love Actually and The Polar Express **appeared at number 15 and 18 respectively and **E.T. **didn't even make it into the top 30.

Maybe, slightly unsurprisingly, the 2003 Christmas film Elf, starring Will Ferrell, James Caan and Zooey Deschanel has come out top of the list. If you haven't seen it, then we aren't quite sure where you have been for the last 14 years, but even if you haven't seen it you can't have missed all the gifs!

Here is the top ten family Christmas films:

  1. Elf
  1. The Muppet Christmas Carol
  1. The Santa Clause

4)** The Nightmare Before Christmas**

  1. Home Alone
  1. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
  1. Jingle All the Way
  1. A Christmas Story
  1. Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!
  1. Miracle on 34th Street

If you are already as excited about Christmas as much as Will Ferrel was in Elf then that might not be a bad thing.

Research revealed earlier this month found that people who put up their Christmas decorations earlier are happier people.

According to Unilad psychoanalyst Steve McKeown says, "In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.

"Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. So putting up those Christmas decorations early extend the excitement!"

Unilad also reported that the Journal of Environmental Psychology has found that decorations can be a way to communicate accessibility to neighbours. This means that if your house is covered with decorations then your neighbours might perceive you are more 'friendly and cohesive'. So maybe this is a great way to get to know your neighbours?
