Last night saw the funeral for Deirdre Barlow take place in Coronation Street, which paid tribute to the departed character, but also Anne Kirkbride who played her for a whopping 43 years and sadly passed away due to breast cancer in January 2015.
In the episode, her on-screen husband Ken Barlow led the tributes, which were both heartfelt and humorous.
Ken Barlow said in his on-screen eulogy:"She was a friend, a neighbour, a mother and a grandmother, a confidante. She was a woman who spent most of her life in one street. A lynchpin of the community."
Meanwhile, Kirk's girlfriend helped add a few laughs, by joking that he was getting as sad as he does when he watched Toy Story 3.
Beverley Callard, who plays Deirdre's best friend on the show, Liz McDonald, tweeted: "Thank you so much for all your amazing messages. Annie was one in a million, so was Deirdre! Never to be forgotten! Much love x"
Anne Kirkbridge was awarded a post-humous Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2015 British Soap Awards.
Speaking at the awards, William Roche, who plays Ken Barlow on screen said: “For over 40 years our dear friend Anne Kirkbride played the part of Deirdre and became one of the best-loved and most enduring characters on British television.
"We share your grief and sadness at losing such a beautiful person who’ll be so greatly missed by us all. I love you Anne. Thank you."
