Goodbye Julie Carp. Actress Katy Cavanagh, who pays the unlucky-in-love Weatherfield resident, is to leave the soap after seven years.

ITV announced in a statement that Katy was leaving at the end of her current contract in late spring. Her character Julie will move away after her relationship with Dev unravels and she decides to "rethink her life".

Katy said in the release: “I have decided it's time to take a break from the cobbles and pursue other projects and opportunities. I have loved every minute in the world of Julie Carp and I'm not ruling out a return to the Street in the future. However I am looking forward to a new challenge and a pair of flat shoes."

Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn said: "Julie Carp has become a warm, wonderful and eccentric character able to raise a laugh and a tear in the same scene.

"Everyone at Corrie wishes Katy all the very best and hopefully as far as Julie is concerned, the cobbles haven’t seen the last of her."

Julie Carp first appeared on the soap in 2008, arriving at the Rovers Return after enjoying a holiday romance with Kirk. She's since had a string of tumultuous romantic storylines, from snogging Jason (who turned out to be her nephew), to ending things with Brian Packham after he moved to Wales without her, and now Dev.
