We love cheeky chappy Alfie Moon in EastEnders even if he did land his beloved Kat Moon in a bit of trouble.
But it seems we may not be watching him on our screens for much longer – actor Shane Richie, who plays the character, has hinted he’s leaving the BBC soap.
According to the Daily Mirror, he said: “I’m out of it now ... you’ll see.”
Alfie and wife Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, will soon be leaving Albert Square and will feature in their own six-part drama series as a spin-off from the soap.
Kat has had a troubled time of late having made a suicide bid after facing a period of financial worry, the break-up of her marriage and sustaining injuries in an arson attempt on her home as Alfie tried to cash in on their insurance.
Last month, EastEnders’ executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: “In the next few weeks on EastEnders, viewers will witness several huge twists for Kat and Alfie Moon that will change their lives forever.
“Now is the perfect time to take two of EastEnders’ most beloved and enduring characters out of their comfort zone as they head to Ireland to search for answers to some very big questions.”
He added: “My team here are very excited about creating a whole new drama that stands apart from EastEnders while taking our style of storytelling to a place of stories, myth, secrets and immeasurable beauty.”
Does Shane’s comment mean they’re not coming back forever though? We’ll miss you!
