Emmerdale fans are gearing up to watch tonight's episode (8th March), which is going to be a special one - the entire episode has been made completely by women to celebrate International Women's Day. The all-female cast and crew, who announced the special episode back in October last year, will showcase their work tonight on ITV.
The episode has been written, produced, directed and recorded by women, and the show will also only star the female characters on the soap for one night only.
According to show bosses, the episode will follow "almost all of the Emmerdale female characters as they pursue their own individual stories across the generations," and we also know that, "April has some insecurities whilst Chas and Laurel bond over some secret news. Moira stumbles across an intruder whilst Rhona finds herself with an unlikely confidante."
Although it's not a lot to go on, the episode is set to be an absolute corker with executive producer Jane Hudson saying, "I believe soaps are leading the way with gender equality on set. This is a great opportunity for Emmerdale to show the female talent we have both in front and behind the camera."

Actress Emma Atkins, AKA Charity Dingle, said of the episode, "Charity is on a mission in this episode, and although I can’t give anything away about her scenes, they will have a significant impact going forward.
"I really enjoyed filming these scenes as they were beautifully written and I was honoured to play a role in this episode. We work with a fabulous team, day in and day out, on Emmerdale so it was interesting they pooled all the female crew and cast into one team."
Charlotte Bellamy, who plays Laurel Thomas in the soap, added, "We have a fantastic and inclusive team at Emmerdale and this episode hopefully will be a great opportunity for us to showcase some of the positions available behind the scenes to both men and women within the television industry. We have a fantastic cast on the show, but it was lovely to have an episode that concentrated only on the female characters."

Emmerdale airs every weeknight at 7pm on ITV, with a second showing on Tuesday nights at 8pm.
