Trainspotting Live Script Read, £12.50
When: Saturday 24 September, 5.30pm
What: In 1996 a British film was released that captured the imagination of a generation, with its killer soundtrack and group of achingly hip young actors on the brink of making it big. Now, two decades later (and with the long-awaited sequel T2 finally on its way), Trainspotting is back — as you’ve never seen it before. And never will again.
In collaboration with Film4, Empire will be hosting a live script read. Completely recast with an exciting group of young actors who will play the parts for one night only. If you miss it, that's it — you've missed it forever.
Frozen singalong
When: Sunday 25 September, 10.30am
What: Exactly what it says on the tin – a singalong version of the Disney box office hit, which is sure to go down a storm with youngsters. Not only will Gospeloke's Choir Director and vocal coach Toni Robinson will be on hand to kick off the screening by leading the audience with a warm up, there will also be ACTUAL SNOW in the cinema!
Pixar Shorts
When: Sunday 25 September, 1.30pm
What: It's 20 years since Pixar released its first short, Luxo Jr., a timeless tale of two Anglepoise lamps and one ill-fated bouncing ball. What better way to celebrate the occasion than with a mini-marathon of all the animation house’s shorts, from Luxo Jr. to its latest, the seaside-set Piper?
The Empire Movie Quiz
When: Sunday, 25 September, 8pm
What: Do you know your Godard from your Die Hard? Do you have vast swathes of Star Wars trivia committed to memory? Is your second language Na'vi? If the answer to any of these is 'yes', you'll want to enter Empire's Movie Quiz at Empire Live.
If you're good at coming up with pun-tastic team names, that's just a bonus. The competition will be fierce, the questions occasionally fiendish, but a place in movie trivia Valhalla is assured for everyone who enters. There will be prizes; there will be kudos; there will be a bit where someone shouts out an answer by mistake. Start putting your team together now. NB: use of mobiles and Vulcan mind melds is strictly prohibited.
Ghostbusters slime-a-long, £12.50
When: Sunday 25 September, 9pm
What: If you've ever watched the scene in the original Ghostbusters where Peter Venkman is writhing on the floor of the Sedgewick Hotel splattered with ectoplasm and thought, "Jeez, I wish that was me," then this is the screening for you.
Similarly, if at the end of the film, where the team are covered in marshmallow, your abiding feeling was, "Wow, being doused head to toe in white foam sure looks like fun," then, again, this is an event you won't want to miss. Because at the Ghostbusters slime-along, every time there's a character who's sprayed with a supernatural substance, the audience will follow suit.
Aliens 30th anniversary
When: Sunday 25 September, 9pm
What: Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen because Aliens is coming to Empire Live. Among the greatest sequels ever made, Aliens picks up where Ridley Scott's original left off, with Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley floating through space. James Cameron has never been one to re-tread old ground, though, and with a remarkably effective gear shift, a terrifying horror film became a blood-pumping platoon movie as Ripley returns to LV-426 with a squad of badass colonial marines in a bid to salvage what's left of her sanity. But where there was one, now there are many. This time it's war.
