So… let's talk about last night's Bake Off. It was patisserie week and Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins got us straight in the mood for all things French with their Henri Le Chat Noir impression – if you don’t know the meme look it up, you won't be disappointed.
First up in the signature challenger were palmiers. They’re basically posh puff pastries filled with all sorts of savoury deliciousness.
We should have known from this first challenge that patisserie week would not end well for Selasi Gbormittah. The previously calmest man in the world was a little flustered, with Sue commenting on his"patrolling" of the tent.
In the end, Selasi's palmiers butterflies – of course Selasi made palmiers butterflies – were just a bit too, err raw, to fill us with our usual confidence in his baking mastery.
Despite Paul 'The Traitor' Hollywood "genuinely wishing" Selasi success, things didn’t get much better for our fave baker as the show went on: his Savarin fell flat and his fondant fancies were not exactly fancy.
Eventually, we had to come to terms with the fact a hero had fallen.
Selasi, with his baking je ne sais quoi, has left the show and we just don’t know what to do.
:((((
Understandably, Twitter did not take the news well.
People were heartbroken.
One wrote: "I knew it was coming, I just wasn’t ready."
One viewer summed up how the whole WORLD was feeling: "And just like that, millions of hearts shattered into tiny caramel pieces #GBBO #Selasi"
There were even calls for a day of national mourning.
People just didn’t know how to process this information.
Selasi's exit sees Candice Brown, Jane Beedle and Andrew Smyth – this week's star baker – head into the final.
Now Selasi has left and the last ever series of Bake Off as we know it ends next week, we're not sure Wednesday nights will never be the same again.
QUEL DOMMAGE! (that means what a shame in French, BTW)
