Former Love Island contestant Max Morley has made some surprise claims about the show - he says contestants get days off from filming so they can “chill” and “relax”.

The reality star, who won the 2015 series, has told how they were allowed to leave the villa to entertain themselves sometimes.

He told talkRADIO: “For us Thursday was a day off. There was a live show on the Thursdayn night so in the daytime you got to do what you want.

“The boys got to go out and the girls got to go out the following week. We decided to go to the beach and play football and then we got a McDonald’s.

“We got spotted a little bit. But where we were staying was in the middle of nowhere so it was all Spanish people. I think that’s what kept everyone sane… that Thursday.

“We used to look forward to it. Cameras were off. You could just chill, relax and do what you wanted to do.”

Max’s words are likely to surprise the millions who watch the most recent series of the show but a show producer told the Daily Star last night that contestants were “on occasion” allowed time off.

It has been rumoured a winter series of the show could be in the running after this season proved so popular.

But Max doesn’t think it’s a great idea, saying: “I always feel like they try to overdo it. I think just do one a year.

“With Big Brother it got too much where there was two celebrity a year then a normal one. It kind of killed it.”
