As any Game of Thrones fan will know, next year will see the last EVER series hit TV screens, after eight years of world-class drama. Now, two months after filming his last scenes, Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, has revealed what it was like.
Speaking earlier this week, after winning an Emmy, Peter explained how he felt as he said "goodbye" to the character he had played since the beginning of the series in 2011.
Backstage at the Emmys Peter revealed he wasn't sure about the role to begin with, saying, "I had concerns about this genre, I wasn’t familiar with the books or the complexity of Tyrion before this because unfortunately before this character, many times people my size weren’t interesting enough for me to be interested in doing it."
Peter then went on to explain how he felt saying "goodbye" to the character he "adored". "I had my last day on set in July, just over two months ago now and it was very sad," the Tyrion Lannister actor explained.
"This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of."
He went on to explain how he had developed a close bond with countries where they filmed the show, including Ireland, because he couldn't go home at weekends, as he lives in New York.
“It was definitely hard to say goodbye, because it wasn’t just saying goodbye to the show, I was saying goodbye to a life over there,” Peter explained.
On Monday evening Game of Thrones was hugely successful at the Emmys taking home many awards, including Peter Dinklage winning Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

"It was amazing. By the very end, everyone looked down and looked up and tears were in their eyes."
At present, the date for the final series of Game of Thrones has not been confirmed, however it it understood that we should see the first episode in April 2019.
Everything you need to know about season 8 of Game of Thrones
There are many rumours circulating about what to expect from the final season of Game of Thrones, which characters might die and how the plot will develop. The final season has now finished filming and the cast and crew recently held a party in Northern Ireland to celebrate.
Much of the series was filmed in Northern Ireland and last year many of the cast were spotted out and about. Eagle-eyed fans crossed paths with some of the main characters in Belfast and it sent Twitter into a frenzy.
