Silent Jay off of Gogglebox is set to remain silent for the rest of his TV career, reckons his onscreen sort-of-mother-in-law Viv Woerdenweber.
Speaking to the* Liverpool Echo*, Viv – who appears on the hit Channel 4 show with her husband Ralf, daughter Eve and Eve’s boyfriend Jay Makin – said the 22-year-old is in his own little dream world most of the time.
“He’s not a very vocal person anyway, he tends to watch the TV in his own little world,” Viv admitted.
“I think he was a bit camera shy on the first couple of episodes and didn’t say anything, then people caught on, so now I think he thinks he might as well stick with it. He’s become a legend in his own lunchtime!”
But earlier this summer, Jay ‘spoke’ (we assume by email) to the Star and said that any time he attempts to utter a sound, the production crew edit him out. Surely not!
“They cut the bits where I speak,” he mimed.
“Not really sure why, though. It’s kind of a running joke with us and the crew,” he added, by wafting smoke signals towards the awaiting journos.
Jay, who shocked and stunned the nation last Friday by unveiling a rakish new haircut on the first episode of the new *Gogglebox *series, says he “feels like a celeb” when people stop him in the street to say they recognise him.
