Idris Elba is a dude. This isn’t news, we know, but it is fact, which is almost as good. Elba is cool. The fellas wanna be him and the ladies wanna see him… along with some of the other fellas.
But we’re not just here to go on a rant about the merits of Elba, well, we kinda are. Since the infamous Sony hack all manner of harsh and amazing emails have found their way onto the interweb, and now some grumblings about the next actor to play James Bond have emerged.
According to The Daily Beast, a leaked email from Sony Pictures Entertainment’s, Amy Pascal, said: "Idris should be the next Bond.”
Amy is thought to have been emailing Elizabeth Cantillon, the former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures - which deals with the Bond films. However, there has been no official word from Idris Elba or from Sony Pictures about the actor taking over the famous role of 007.
Elba, who is famous for his roles BBC's Luther, as well as The Wire, confirmed he’d definitely be up for playing JB. In a Reddit AMA earlier this year he said: "Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely."
Daniel Craig, the current Bond, who is starting to get that dishevelled wrinkly-old-man-he-is-too-old-for-that-Bond-girl look about him, a bit like Roger Moore, is currently filming the next installment of the franchise, named Spectre.
He told Rolling Stone two years ago that he’d been trying to get out of the series not long after he started, but he’s still contracted for a couple more films. Craig out. Elba in. Craig out. Elba in. Craig out. Elba in. Come everyone, if we chart for long enough, it’ll probably happen… Craig out. Elba in.
