Here at heat we've made no attempt to hide our undying love for all things Harry Potter. We recently lost our shit when we found out there's a legit Harry Potter B&B you can go to and enjoy a MAGICAL afternoon tea. You even get sorted into one of the Hogwarts houses. WE KNOW.
We also love it when JK Rowling sends fans wild and addresses fan theories and shuts down plot holes. It's also pretty exciting when she reveals HP insider facts.
The most recent snippet of HP trivia we thought we'd bring to your attention concerns none-other than the enigmatic headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Dumbledore. Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, to be precise.
Harry Potter fans will of course know that Dumbledore is in fact gay. And now, JK has finally revealed who exactly ol' Dumbledore was in love with.
And it's actually a pretty important part of the new Fantastic Beasts films.
This statement from JK explains it all: "I always thought of Dumbledore as gay… Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent? But, he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how I always saw Dumbledore."
INTERESTING.
Of course, die-hard Hazza fans, who've actually READ the books (and not just watched the films like some of you cop-outs, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) will already know this, as it's pretty obvious from the way Albus talks about Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.
In the book it's revealed Dumbledore and Grindelwald were childhood friends, before Grindelwald went on to become Voldemort's evil predecessor.
However, if you've only seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (shame on you), then you'll know Grindelwald as the villain who destroys New York.
Appaz Dumbledore is set to feature in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films (there's going to be three more YAAAAAS), so we've got a sneaky suspicion we could be getting a closer insight into this old romance.
