He was brought in by The X Factor bosses this week to share his wealth of experience and knowledge as a singer with the show’s contestants.

But it seems John Legend didn’t have too much to say about Honey G.

The star says he was looking forward to meeting the aspiring rapper because he’d heard so much about her but has now cast her aside in the contest, saying "people are obviously getting caught up in the novelty of it", according to the Daily Mirror.

He said: "There’s been a lot of conversation about her, I’d heard about her but I hadn’t seen any of the episodes leading up to it.

"She has attracted a lot of attention, all I told her was try and be the best version of her that you can be."

Honey has been criticised for her performances and many claim she should not have been brought this far along in the competition by the judges, with thousands even signing a petition to have her removed from the contest.

But John says Honey, who performed Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby on Saturday night, can continue to compete as long as she picks the right music, but didn’t feel he could offer much more genuine advice.

He said: "To me, I think part of it is choosing which songs you do and trying to execute the mechanical of being a good rapper, it’s about flow, it’s about how you use your voice, how you communicate to the audience so I tried to be as kind and sensitive as I could be.

"You know; people are obviously getting caught up in the novelty of it. The song she had chosen, I thought, heightened the novelty of her because it was referencing another novelty act, which I thought wasn't the best idea, so I told her that.

"What else do you want me to say?!"
