As we begin to leave the summer months behind us, the next big thing to look forward to is Christmas, and with it comes the excitement of the Christmas adverts, with John Lewis' iconic adverts eagerly-awaited each year. Now, a massive 106 days before the BIG day, rumours have emerged about this year's advert, who it features and what the theme of it is.

According to The Mail on Sunday, sources have told the publication that half of the company's budget for the advert will go on music icon Elton John. Elton will get a massive £5 million for appearing on the advert, which will reportedly feature him playing the piano and singing his debut, 1970 hit, 'Your Song'.

The advert will follow Elton's life, "It’s a tear-jerker but also very sweet, and follows Elton from a child, through his teenage years, into how he is today," the source told The Mail on Sunday.

"It is all very, very charming and the exciting crescendo at the end will be Elton playing his famous piano."

The filming for the advert is believed to have taken place over four days at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

If these rumours are true, then this wouldn't be the first time that Elton's track 'Your Song' has been used in a John Lewis advert. Eight years ago, Ellie Goulding covered Elton's classic for their 2010 Christmas advert.

Whilst there are many rumours circulating over what could in this year's advert, according to the Independent, a spokesperson for John Lewis has said, "We are lucky enough to enjoy lots of speculation around our TV ads, much of which is wildly inaccurate, and our one rule is to never comment on any aspect simply because we want to keep the magic."

Last year, when a short, silent clip was uploaded to Twitter, showing just a creature's eyes looking for something, with the hashtag #UnderTheBed, there was much speculation that it could be the 2017 Christmas advert.

Amazingly, days later, the official advert dropped and the rumours were correct! Set to a cover version of The Beatles’ song ‘Golden Slumbers’ that was recorded by British band Elbow, the two minute advert tells the heartwarming story of a little boy called Joe, who is kept awake by a 7ft imaginary Monster called Moz.

Now take a look at some of the best John Lewis Christmas adverts over the years.
