Jonathan Ross’s long-running chat show has reportedly been given the axe and his autumn series will be the last.
The comedian is apparently planning to take a break in America in 2017 when his contract with ITV ends at the end of the year.
His winter series, which usually runs from January to March, will be replaced by new programming, according to the Daily Mirror.
While a spokesman for the television host insists the show - on which many celebrities have appeared over the years - will return later this year, ITV sources claim this is the end after a drop in ratings.
“Ross is taking a break, which could run and run,” one insider said. “The show’s been axed by stealth.”
A spokesman for Jonathan said: “Jonathan is extending his hiatus into the early part of next year to travel to the US. The chat show will return in the autumn of 2017.”
Jonathan moved over to ITV from the BBC, where he earned £6million a year, after he was suspended following the Sachsgate scandal which involved Russell Brand in 2008.
ITV signed him up on a £1.5million contract but, earlier this year, he admitted his career as a chat show host could be over when Kevin Lygo joined as the boss of ITV.
He said: “Maybe I’m not safe. Being friends means he can be more honest with me than anyone else, so who knows?”
Kevin said: "Jonathan Ross is very important to ITV and we look forward to the new series this autumn and the Christmas special and working with him again next year when the chat show returns in Autumn 2017."
